White Sox reinstate Chris Sale from disabled list

Prior to today's game vs. Minnesota, the Chicago White Sox reinstated left-handed pitcher Chris Sale from the 15-day disabled list.

Sale, 26, was placed on the disabled list on April 5 (retroactive to March 27) with an avulsion fracture in his right foot suffered on February 27.

Sale finished third in the American League Cy Young Award voting in 2014 after going 12-4 with a 2.17 ERA (42 ER/174.0 IP) and 208 strikeouts in 26 starts. He narrowly missed becoming the first White Sox pitcher since Joel Horlen in 1967 to lead the AL in ERA, finishing .03 behind Seattle's Felix Hernandez.

Sale led the AL with an average of 10.76 strikeouts per 9.0 IP and ranked among the leaders in numerous other categories, including ERA (2nd), opponents average (3rd, .205), strikeout-to-walk ratio (5th, 5.33) and strikeouts (6th). His 2.17 ERA was the lowest by a Sox pitcher since Wilbur Wood (1.91) in 1971 and the lowest by an AL lefty since Ron Guidry (1.74) in 1978.
