White Sox add first baseman Anderson off waivers
Former Red Sox prospect designated for assignment by D-backs last month
Anderson, 25, spent most of last season with Triple-A Pawtucket, hitting .259 with nine homers and 52 RBIs in 93 games. He also registered one hit in eight Major League at-bats with Boston before being traded to Cleveland in late July.
Formerly a top prospect in the Red Sox organization, Anderson hit .196 (11-for-56) in 18 appearances with Triple-A Columbus following the midseason trade.
Earlier this offseason, Anderson was shipped to the D-backs, along with Didi Gregorius and Tony Sipp, in the trade that sent right-handers Matt Albers, Trevor Bauer and Bryan Shaw to Cleveland. Anderson was then designated for assignment on Jan. 24.
In 30 career Major League games, all with the Red Sox from 2010-12, Anderson hit .167 (8-for-48) with four RBIs. During those same three seasons, he hit .259 with 33 home runs and 190 RBIs in 360 games in Triple-A.
