White Sox to recall Avisail Garcia from Class AAA Charlotte
Prior to the second game of today's doubleheader, the Chicago White Sox will recall outfielder Avisail ("Ahh-vee-sah-eel") Garcia from Class AAA Charlotte. Garcia is expected to arrive near game time for the 7:10 p.m. start.
Garcia, 22, is hitting .370 (10-27) with one home run, nine RBI and six runs scored in eight games (all in center field) with Charlotte since being acquired as part of the three-game trade with Boston and Detroit on July 30 in which pitcher Jake Peavy was traded to the Red Sox.
Garcia, 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, owns a .379 (75-198) average with seven doubles, four triples, seven home runs, 36 RBI and 38 runs scored over 47 games combined this season with Charlotte, Class AAA Toledo and Class A Lakeland. He also has posted a .431 on-base and .561 slugging percentage between the three stops.
The Anzoategu, Venezuela native also appeared in 30 games with the Tigers this season, batting .241 (20-83) with two home runs and 10 RBI. Garcia, Detroit's Minor League Player of the Year in 2012, entered this season rated by Baseball America as the No. 2 Prospect in the Tigers organization.
Garcia is a career .269 hitter (35-130) with three home runs and 13 RBI over 53 major league games with Detroit from 2012-13. He made his major-league debut on August 31, 2012 vs. the White Sox.
Garcia will wear uniform No. 26.
