Wieters, Gausman progressing in rehabs

BALTIMORE -- Catcher Matt Wieters and pitcher Kevin Gausman are both slated to continue their respective rehabs in Miami with the Orioles this weekend.

Manager Buck Showalter said that the plan for Gausman -- who made 25 throws from 60 feet on Tuesday -- is to throw from 90 feet on Thursday before throwing live batting practice from Marlins Park. Gausman has been sidelined with right shoulder inflammation.

Showalter didn't divulge the plans for Wieters, who is continuing to his work his way back from Tommy John surgery at extended spring camp in Sarasota, Fla. Though the backstop is set to head to Double-A Bowie next Tuesday to start his rehab assignment.

"I've kind of asked myself, 'OK you're catching every other day, what are we really going to do in Miami Friday, Saturday, Sunday?" Showalter said of Wieters, who is eligible to join the O's on June 4. "We got something cooked up for him."

Bud Norris, who has been sick and was placed on the disabled list Monday, will throw for Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.

"We talked to him today about whether he wanted to take two short outings or one longer outing," Showalter said. "He'd rather take two work days than a longer outing."

Norris could be eligible to pitch for the Orioles as early as Monday.

"I plan on him joining the rotation, all things being equal," Showalter said. "We'll see how things are going when he is ready to come back."

Tyler Wilson, who is up in place of Norris, will be a bullpen option for now, although the team still thinks of him long term as a starter.
