Champion Giants heading back to White House

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants have received their championship rings and a triumphant parade. Now comes one final spoil of being a World Series champion.

For the second time in three years, the Giants will make the World Series winner's traditional visit to the White House on Monday to meet President Barack Obama and be recognized for capturing baseball's title.

The President also will honor the Giants for their extensive community-service endeavors. Additionally, it has been rumored that Hall of Fame center fielder Willie Mays, the Giants legend who traveled with Obama on Air Force One to attend the 2009 All-Star Game in St. Louis, will be singled out by the President.

As was the case in July 2011, the Giants will be welcomed at the Executive Mansion on a scheduled off-day before the beginning of a three-game series at Philadelphia.

The Giants can expect to be joined by a host of VIPs. For their previous visit, the full house in the East Room of the White House included Senator Dianne Feinstein, then-House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and former defense secretary Leon Panetta.
