Worth noting

• A's lefty Travis Blackley was knocked around for four runs on five hits in just 1 1/3 innings on Monday, just over a week after giving up seven runs in one-third of an inning. Melvin, though, does not appear worried about the southpaw, who is fighting for a job in the bullpen, noting Blackley's other two appearances have been strong.

• The A's compiled just four hits against San Diego's pitching staff Monday. Not surprisingly, one belonged to outfielder Shane Peterson, who went 1-for-2 to raise his spring average to .471. The A's prospect is the only player to appear in each of the club's 15 games this spring, and he has 16 hits in 34 at-bats over that span.
