Worth noting

• Second baseman Daniel Murphy (strained right intercostal) approached Terry Collins on Friday to say he will be ready for Opening Day. The manager's response? "I said, 'Let's talk about that next Wednesday and Thursday,'" Collins said. Murphy played defense in a Minor League game last weekend, but has not played since. Due to disabled list backdating rules, it would not make sense for the Mets to use Murphy in a Grapefruit League game unless they are sure he will be ready on April 1.

• Third baseman David Wright (strained left intercostal) took ground balls Friday and played catch, but did not swing a bat. The Mets still hope that Wright will be ready for Opening Day.

• Outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis (bone bruise, left knee) and infielder Justin Turner (sprained right ankle) both played in a Minor League game Friday at Port St. Lucie, Fla. Both came out of it healthy, though Nieuwenhuis no longer projects to break camp with the big league team. Turner, who will make the team, is a leading candidate to sub for Murphy if the latter is not ready by Opening Day.
