Worth noting

• Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who was supposed to start Sunday's game against the Phillies, was scratched from the trip after having a growth removed from his back Wednesday.

"The incision opened up after yesterday's game," Farrell said. "Because of that, we're backing him out for a day or two to let that close up to not risk any infection or anything like that."

Ryan Lavarnway made the start behind the plate for Boston.
