Worth noting

• Center fielder Denard Span's .467 on-base percentage ranks fourth in the Majors among leadoff hitters. Nationals leadoff men ranked 18th in the league in OBP last season and dead last in 2011.

Span, acquired from the Twins this offseason, has reached base safely at least twice in seven of Washington's 10 games. He has three contests with multiple hits and three with multiple walks.

• Span and the two batters after him in the lineup, Jayson Werth and Bryce Harper, are a combined 20-for-48 (.417) with a double, three home runs and 11 RBIs in their past four games. They have stolen five bases and scored 14 runs during that time.
