Worth noting

• Brett Anderson threw a bullpen on Tuesday and also took part in fielding drills. As long as the lefty comes into Wednesday void of any pain in his ankle, "We'll then have a date for him to pitch," Melvin said.

Anderson could rejoin the A's rotation as soon as Friday, when the team begins a three-game home set with the Royals.

• Hiro Nakajima (hamstring) went 1-for-5 with Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, which marked his third consecutive day played. He'll take Wednesday off and then play four in a row. Overall, he's 7-for-29 (.241) with the River Cats.

"From everything that I hear, he's getting more and more comfortable, not only in the field but at the plate," Melvin said. "We want to make sure he gets plenty of at-bats and plays plenty of games to where he doesn't have to feel the hamstring."
