Worth noting

• Backup catcher Taylor Teagarden (dislocated left thumb) was scheduled to catch a game in extended spring camp on Friday. He may join one of the team's Minor League affiliates on a rehab assignment if all goes well, and could be nearing a return from the disabled list.

• Davis made an appearance Friday morning advocating against texting and driving.

• Zach Britton pitched Thursday night for Triple-A Norfolk, and Showalter said he was encouraged with reports. Britton pitched five innings and struck out five batters with two walks in a losing effort.

• With an off-day Monday, Showalter said his plan is to give every starter in his rotation an extra day of rest, instead of scrambling the order. That could change, of course, depending on how he needs to use pitchers over the weekend for the Tigers series.

• Tsuyoshi Wada, rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, pitched 4 2/3 innings for Triple-A Norfolk on Friday night, allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks.
