Worth noting

• Third baseman Trevor Plouffe will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Rochester on Monday. Plouffe, on the disabled list retroactive to May 28 with a strained left calf, is eligible to return from the DL on Thursday.

• Right-hander Alex Meyer, who was acquired in the trade that sent Denard Span to the Nationals, was placed on the 7-day Minor League disabled list with a strained right shoulder on Sunday. Meyer, ranked the No. 40 overall prospect according to MLB.com, has a 3.69 ERA with 73 strikeouts and 27 walks in 61 innings at Double-A New Britain.

Meyer has yet to have an MRI exam on his shoulder and was placed on the DL for precautionary reasons, according to Steil. The injury is not believed to be serious, as he's just experiencing shoulder soreness.
