Worth noting

• Right-handed reliever Fernando Salas surrendered a single and struck out one in one inning Friday during his second rehab appearance with Triple-A Memphis.

• Matheny said injured pitcher John Gast may be a few weeks away from throwing. The Cardinals skipper admitted he didn't expect Gast's left lat strain to keep him out this long, but he said it's a "complicated injury that does take time."

• Jon Jay was given the night off Saturday, and Shane Robinson was inserted into the lineup in his place. With the Rangers starting two left-handers in the weekend series, Matheny said he intended to swap Jay, a lefty, for the right-handed Robinson against one of them.

• Allen Craig's 20 RBIs in June are tied for his most for one month in the Majors. With seven games remaining in June, he will likely surpass the 20 RBIs he hit in September of last year.
