Worth noting

• The Philies signed right-hander Mike MacDougal, who has joined the bullpen in Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

MacDougal, who was an All-Star for the Royals in 2003, has a 4.00 ERA in 407 career appearances over 12 seasons in the big leagues.

"We're starting to get a little thin down there in Triple-A," Amaro said. "I don't know that he's an answer for us in the big leagues, but he gives us a veteran guy in Triple-A to try to help that club. We'll see. Everybody is fair game. We'll watch everybody. I'm particularly interested to see our young guys, because they're important parts of our future. I believe they have a lot of ability. It's whether or not they can do it on a regular basis yet, but they have the ability to do it."

• The Cubs designated relief pitcher Carlos Marmol for assignment this week. Asked about Marmol, who is 2-4 with a 5.86 ERA in 31 games this season, Amaro said, "Did he get released yet? We've talked about the possibility of a lot of different guys, but we'll see."

• The Phillies offered injury updates on Tuesday for right-hander Mike Stutes and left-hander Jeremy Horst.

Stutes is on the 15-day disabled list with right biceps tendinitis. He will head to Clearwater, Fla., where he will begin a rehab program. He will not throw until Phillies physician Michael Ciccotti re-evaluates him on July 5.

Horst has been on the DL since June 16 with a sprained left elbow. He has been cleared to resume throwing. He also will rehab in Clearwater.
