Worth noting

• Infielder Joaquin Arias (appendicitis) resumed performing baseball-related activities Saturday. Bochy said Arias, who underwent an appendectomy July 7 and is on the disabled list, hit off a tee and took some grounders during batting practice.

• Until Friday, when the Giants outlasted Arizona, 2-0, they hadn't won a game in which they didn't score after the first inning for the first time since June 19, 2006. That afternoon, Matt Cain no-hit the Angels for 7 2/3 innings until Chone Figgins singled. San Francisco prevailed, 2-1, as Cain left the game after finishing the eighth, backed by first-inning RBIs from Barry Bonds and Steve Finley.

• Newcomer Jeff Francoeur was asked if he'd buy pizza for fans sitting nearby at AT&T Park when he's stationed in left field. While playing for Kansas City in April 2012, Francoeur purchased 20 personal pizzas and had them delivered to fans in the bleachers at Oakland's O.co Coliseum. "I have to see," Francoeur said cheerfully. "There are a lot more people here than in Oakland."
