Worth noting

• Washington said Leonys Martin and Elvis Andrus took it upon themselves to pull off a first-inning hit-and-run on Monday. Martin broke on a 1-1 pitch and Andrus singled through the right side, moving Martin to third. Said Washington, "I love the hit-and-run, but when I put it on, they don't execute it. If they put it on themselves, it works."

• Andrus is one of five active players with three steals of home in their careers. The others are Torii Hunter, Alex Rodriguez, Juan Pierre and B.J. Upton.

• The Rangers have promoted infielder Alejandro Selen from Class A Hickory to Double-A Frisco.

• The Rangers recalled pitcher Matt West and put him on the 60-day disabled list. The move was made to make room on the 40-man roster for pitcher Travis Blackley. West is still recovering from Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery.
