Worth noting

• Bochy said he expected to follow his typical plan of resting second baseman Marco Scutaro on Wednesday in a day game following a night game. That was before Scutaro spotted Bochy in the clubhouse and started talking. "He talked his way into playing today," Bochy said. "He said he really felt good off the game last night. You admire the fact he wants to be out there. He's had some issues with his back, but he said it felt as good as it's ever felt and he wanted to be out there and help us win a series." Scutaro went 3-for-6 with a double and scored twice Tuesday night.

• Left-hander Jeremy Affeldt (groin) will have to wait one more day to be activated from the disabled list. "Tomorrow," Bochy said before Wednesday's game. "We're going to give him one more day, and he should be good to go." Affeldt, who has been on the DL since July 21, said he's ready when called upon. "I feel fine. I feel great," Affeldt said. "Whenever they decide to let me throw, I'll be more than happy to do that for them."

• Right-hander Chad Gaudin (right side carpal tunnel syndrome) will throw at least one more simulated game before being activated from the DL. "He doesn't feel he's quite ready. In L.A., either tomorrow or Friday he will throw to hitters, see if we can get him to where he's comfortable and feels he's ready," Bochy said Wednesday.
