Worth noting

Xavier Nady belted a pinch-hit home run in the seventh inning of Sunday's 5-1 win over Detroit. Each of Nady's past three hits, dating back to 2012, has been a homer. "I heard that stat today," he said. "I think, basically, I can remember each of the three. It's weird how things work."

• The Padres' three pinch-hit homers through the season's first 12 games (Nady, Seth Smith, Alexi Amarista) are tied for the second most in Major League history through 12 games, behind only the 2001 D-backs (four). The 2004 Cubs, 1961 Reds and 1955 Giants also had three each.

• Injured starter Josh Johnson (soreness in the flexor pronator muscles of his right forearm) will be re-evaluated this week. The Padres are concerned that he may not be able to pitch for quite some time.

• On an injury rehabilitation assignment at Triple-A El Paso, outfielder Cameron Maybin fanned three times Saturday night and was ejected for arguing balls and strikes.
