Worth noting

• Infielder Eric Chavez jammed his right pinkie into second base Sunday while stretching a single into a double. The swelling prevented him from being able to swing a bat Monday, but he pinch-hit in Tuesday's game, and manager Kirk Gibson said he is OK now.

• Triple-A Reno pitcher Charles Brewer had his No. 20 retired by Chaparral (Ariz.) High School on Tuesday. Brewer was 33-0 in four years at Chaparral. The 2006 graduate helped lead the Firebirds to three state titles, and last year, he became the first Arizona-born player to make his Major League debut with the D-backs.

• Jimmie Sherfy, who was selected in the 10th round of last year's Draft, is 1-0 with four saves in his first five appearances for Class A Advanced Visalia.
