Worth noting

• Third baseman Adrian Beltre, who is on the disabled list with a strained left quad muscle, is not running at full speed, but is able to do all baseball activities. He is expected to be ready to come off the disabled list on April 25, when the Rangers open a three-game series against the Mariners in Seattle.

• Pitcher Cody Buckel has been placed on the disabled list at Class A Myrtle Beach with a sprained left ankle and has been replaced in the rotation by pitcher Will Lamb. Buckel was a second-round Draft pick in 2010, while Lamb was taken in the second round in 2011. He started the season in extended Spring Training but was 5-3 with a 5.17 ERA in 39 appearances for Myrtle Beach.

Buckel had made three starts for the Pelicans and was 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA while walking 14 and hitting two in 6 2/3 innings. The Rangers want him to use the time to work on his mechanics with Minor League pitching coordinator Danny Clark and Myrtle Beach pitching coach Steve Mintz.

• Washington gave Jim Adduci, a left-handed hitter, his first start of the season on Friday. Adduci played right field, Alex Rios started at designated hitter and Mitch Moreland was out of the lineup. It's the first time Moreland hasn't started against a right-handed pitcher this season.

Derek Holland, who is on the disabled list while recovering from January knee surgery, is throwing bullpen sessions in Arizona, but is not yet ready to face hitters. Holland is just beginning to take fielding practice. Said Daniels, "The arm is ahead of the knee. We've got to get the legs in shape."

Daniel Bard, the former Red Sox reliever signed by the Rangers to a Minor League contract this winter, has been throwing bullpen sessions in Arizona, but is also not ready for games. He had Thoracic Outlet Syndrome surgery on his right shoulder on Jan. 2.

• The Rangers have designated Triple-A infielder Andy Parrino for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for pitcher Aaron Poreda.
