Derek Holland, who is on the disabled list still recovering from offseason knee surgery, threw live batting practice on Friday in Arizona. He will have another session next Wednesday and then be re-evaluated on when he might be ready for a medical rehabilitation assignment.

• The Rangers have named their Minor League award winners for May. Joey Gallo was the Player of the Month, Alex Gonzalez was Pitcher of the Month, Phil Klein was top reliever and catcher Tomas Tellis was the top defender.

• The Rangers have signed 12 more Draft picks. The highest was No. 12 pick right-handed pitcher Joe Watson from Catawba (N.C.) College. They also signed No. 16 Reed Garrett, a pitcher from the Virginia Military Academy and No. 40 Nick Dignacco from the United States Military Academy. The only player from Army to ever reach the Major Leagues was Walter French, an outfielder with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1923-29. There have been two from VMI including former Rangers pitcher Ryan Glynn.

• The other nine Draft picks signed were pitcher Gio Abreu (12th), catcher Isaias Quiroz (20th), pitcher Sterling Wynn (21st) pitcher Jason Hoppe (27th), outfielder Luke Tendler (29th), pitcher Cody Palmquist (30th), pitcher John Fasola (31st), pitcher Adam Parks (33rd) and pitcher Cody Chartrand (36th).
