• Russell Martin, taking his typical day-after-night-game break, rested Wednesday on his .416 on-base percentage, best among all Major League catchers. Milwaukee All-Star Jonathan Lucroy was No. 2 in the National League, at .378.

• Prior to Wednesday's game, manager Clint Hurdle observed his 57th birthday. He hoped to "celebrate" it after the game.

• Francisco Liriano's strong seven-inning turn Tuesday night gave him wins in consecutive starts for the first time since last Aug. 14-19.
