Gomes, House start rehab assignments
Left-hander throws three scoreless frames to recovering backstop
ARLINGTON -- Left-hander T.J. House and catcher Yan Gomes started their rehab assignments with Class A Lake County on Friday. Gomes caught House for three scoreless innings and lined a pair of singles to left in his only two at-bats.
House, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with left elbow inflammation on May 1, is expected to pitch five innings in his next rehab start on Wednesday. Where that outing will be has yet to be determined. Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus, both on the road now, play at home Wednesday.
After going 5-3 with a 3.35 ERA last season, House was 0-4 with a 13.15 ERA in four starts before being placed on the disabled list.
Gomes was originally scheduled to start at designated hitter on Friday and catch for three innings Saturday. But because of his familiarity with House and the fact that he had been progressing nicely in his rehab, Gomes caught Friday and will start at designated hitter on Saturday.
Gomes has been on the 15-day disabled list with a right knee sprain since April 12, although Indians manager Terry Francona said there was no timetable for his return. He will take the day off Sunday and catch again on Monday. He was hitting .150 (3-for-20) with five strikeouts in five games this season before he was injured.
