Yanks call up reinforcements for day-night twin bill

Catcher Murphy, infielder Sizemore set to join club; Cervelli moved to 60-day DL

NEW YORK -- The Yankees have summoned catcher John Ryan Murphy and infielder Scott Sizemore from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and both players will be with the club for Wednesday's day-night, separate-admission doubleheader against the Cubs.

New York also placed catcher Francisco Cervelli on the 60-day disabled list with a Grade 2 strain of his right hamstring. The Yanks had optioned right-hander Shane Greene to Triple-A after Sunday's game.

Murphy, 22, was recalled from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he was batting .192 (5-for-26) with three doubles and three RBIs.

Murphy, who played in 16 games last September with New York, will serve as the backup to starting catcher Brian McCann. Murphy replaces Cervelli, who was injured legging out a ground ball in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Red Sox.

Sizemore, 29, was signed to a Major League contract and selected to the 25-man roster. The veteran is coming back from his second torn left anterior cruciate ligament and offers the Yankees some infield versatility, with both Derek Jeter (right quadriceps) and Brian Roberts (lower back spasms) experiencing discomfort over this past weekend.

In 10 games at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Sizemore was batting .344 (11-for-32) with three doubles, a triple and five RBIs. He has previously played in the Majors with the Tigers and Athletics, compiling a .238 batting average in 160 games from 2010-13.
