Yanks' challenge win gives Jeter a hit

BOSTON -- The Yankees successfully challenged a call at first base in the sixth inning of Saturday's game against the Red Sox, resulting in Derek Jeter being credited with an infield single.

Jeter hustled down the line on a weak ground ball to Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts with one out.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi continued to look back at the dugout after the play to see if he should challenge the call, as Jeter stayed behind the first-base bag, believing he was safe.

Girardi decided to challenge the call made by first-base umpire Paul Schrieber, and after a review of one minute and six seconds, it was determined that Jeter was indeed safe at first base. It marked his second hit of the game and the 3,425th of his career -- moving him five hits shy of Honus Wagner for sixth place on the all-time hits list.

However, Jeter didn't move past first base, as Jacoby Ellsbury grounded into a forceout at second base.

Girardi and the Yankees have made 21 challenges this season; 16 have been overturned, three have been confirmed and two have been ruled to stand.
