Young Jr. likely headed to DL; den Dekker to get call

NEW YORK -- In the likelihood that Eric Young Jr. needs to head the disabled list, general manager Sandy Alderson said, the Mets are calling in outfielder Matt den Dekker from Triple-A Las Vegas. As of Sunday night, no official transaction had been made.

Young had to sit out Sunday's doubleheader against Arizona with a right hamstring "issue," as Alderson put it. Manager Terry Collins said Young felt it flare up most when he stole second base in the seventh inning of Saturday's 3-2 loss.

"I just came in one day and it wasn't feeling that good," Young said.

Collins ruled Young out for the doubleheader as a precaution before he had a chance to see a doctor.

"His game is his legs, so I certainly didn't want to take a chance," Collins said.

den Dekker, 26, has 27 games of Major League experience, all with the Mets in 2013. He hit .207 with a .270 on-base percentage and 23 strikeouts in 58 at-bats while seeing time at all three outfield spots, but mostly center field.

In 47 games with Las Vegas this season, den Dekker is hitting .269 with a .326 OBP and .421 slugging mark.
