Escobar injures hamstring in win over Phillies

PHILADELPHIA -- Nationals third baseman Yunel Escobar left Wednesday's 12-2 win over the Phillies because of a tight hamstring, according to manager Matt Williams.

With runners on first and second and the Nationals leading, 9-2, in the eighth inning, Escobar singled to right field. The ball went by Phillies right fielder Jeff Francoeur for an error as two runs scored on the play. Escobar ran slowly and made it to second base. He left the game seconds later and was replaced by pinch-runner Trea Turner.

Williams believes Escobar hurt himself in the fifth inning when he slid in hard at the plate. Williams did not know which leg Escobar injured and the third baseman was not available to reporters after the game.

"Escobar didn't want to push it too hard, so we got him out of there," Williams said. "It was a little tight. I don't anticipate anything to worry about at this point. We'll see how he is [Thursday]. We didn't want to take a chance."
