Greinke scratched from start against D-backs

LOS ANGELES -- National League Cy Young candidate Zack Greinke was scratched from his scheduled start on Wednesday night due to a right calf injury. Carlos Frias made the start for Los Angeles in Greinke's place against the D-backs.

Greinke expects to make his next start when his spot in the rotation comes around next Monday against the Giants. He said he first felt the injury in his last start on Friday against Pittsburgh.

"It's pretty minor. It's just a little discomfort," Greinke said. "It wasn't so bad once the game got on, but getting loose was tougher."

"He came into my office the day after the start or the next day and he told me what he was feeling," manager Don Mattingly said. "We were just hoping it would resolve over the week, and for the most part it doesn't feel really serious, but at this point we don't want to take any chances with him."

Greinke had a similar injury in Spring Training last year, which caused him to miss two weeks, although Greinke said this injury is less severe.

Worth noting:

Though the Dodgers had shortstop Jimmy Rollins in the starting lineup for the first time since Sept. 6, Carl Crawford was out of the lineup with left shoulder bursitis.

Crawford has been dealing with back and hamstring ailments, but it was the shoulder that prevented him from being in the starting lineup. Mattingly said he hopes Crawford will be able to at least pinch hit Wednesday.
