NORTH SHORE TRAFFIC AND PARKING

The Pittsburgh Pirates host the Cincinnati Reds at PNC Park for a weekend series from Friday, May 1, through Sunday, May 3. With the recent event work from Pittsburgh’s hosting of the NFL Draft impacting the North Shore, the Pirates would like to inform fans of parking and traffic information for the upcoming homestand.

While there are still limited traffic constraints, the North Shore is gradually opening to full capacity following the NFL Draft, as fans will notice an easing of restrictions this weekend.

Cincinnati Reds Series Parking and Traffic Information:

Fans should be aware that on Friday, May 1, several of the NFL Draft road closures on the North Shore will still be in effect. Art Rooney Avenue and West General Robinson Street from Art Rooney Avenue to Tony Dorsett Drive will be closed. Allegheny Avenue / North Shore Drive will be closed from Reedsdale Street to Chuck Noll Way. Reedsdale Street will be closed from Allegheny Avenue to Tony Dorsett Drive. Tony Dorsett Drive, from Reedsdale Street to West General Robinson Street, will be open one lane southbound for ingress all day until 30 minutes after the first pitch, and one lane northbound for egress from the seventh inning until two hours after the final pitch.

Starting on Saturday, May 2, several of the road closures will be lifted. However, a few road closures will still be in effect; those are primarily around Acrisure Stadium, such as Art Rooney Avenue and West General Robinson Street from Art Rooney Avenue to Tony Dorsett Drive. Reedsdale Street will be closed from Allegheny Avenue to Tony Dorsett Drive.

Garages around the North Shore are open for fan parking. Those garages include Red 5 Garage and Red Lot 5A, the Champions Garage, Blue 10 Garage, and NOVA Place.

With the weekend traffic and other happenings around the City, such as the Pittsburgh Marathon, fans are strongly encouraged to download the WAZE app for the safest and easiest navigation to the games. WAZE is the only GPS program that has PNC Park parking lots, event day traffic patterns, and street closures incorporated, providing fans with accurate directions to their specific lot with real-time traffic alerts.

Fans are also encouraged to find parking in the immediate downtown area and other areas, such as PPG Paints Arena lots, and utilize the PRT “T” service that is offered free from the First Avenue Station to the North Side Station.

Parking and Traffic Tips

  • Download the free WAZE app from Apple’s App Store and Google Play and select your specific lot or location before heading to the game.

  • All fans planning on attending events on the North Shore this weekend are strongly encouraged to download the “ParkPGH” app or visit m.parkpgh.org on mobile to check for downtown parking space availability throughout the weekend.

  • Fans can utilize the free “T” service offered by PRT from the four downtown stations, as well as the Allegheny Station outside of Acrisure Stadium, to the North Side Station just outside of PNC Park’s Edgar Snyder & Associates Home Plate Gate.

Homestand Notable Traffic Information

  • Friday, May 1 (vs. Reds @ 6:40 p.m.):

    • From the North on I-279

      • Fans coming from the North are encouraged to use I-279 Exit 2B from the Southbound direction to make their way to the North Shore parking garages and PNC Park.
    • From the East on I-376

      • I-279 Exit 1B Northbound will be closed to all traffic entering the North Shore.

      • From the Parkway East, fans should use I-376 Exit 70D Stanwix Street and make their way to Fort Duquesne Boulevard and continue to the Rachel Carson Bridge to access the North Shore.

    • From the West on I-376

      • I-279 Exit 1B Northbound will be closed to all traffic entering the North Shore.

      • From the Parkway West, fans should use I-376 Exit 70A Liberty Ave and make their way to Fort Duquesne Boulevard and continue to Roberto Clemente Bridge (April 27-30) or the Rachel Carson Bridge (May 1-3) to access the North Shore.

  • Saturday, May 2 (vs. Reds @ 4:05 p.m.): North Shore roads will close at 6:30 a.m. and reopen after 1:00 p.m. due to the Pittsburgh Marathon.

  • Sunday, May 3 (vs. Reds at 1:35 p.m.): There will be limited access to the North Shore between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Full access to the North Shore will open after 10:00 a.m. to all parking locations, with the West End Bridge opening at 10:15 a.m. due to the Pittsburgh Marathon.
