The Fields for Kids Bradenton program is open to any independent non-profit tax-exempt organization, school or local government unit that operates youth athletic programs within the Pittsburgh Pirates and Bradenton Marauders market area. Any organization operating athletic programs within the approved region that has secured funds equal to or exceeding the requested amount (secured funds can include in-kind contributions of materials or labor) may apply for a grant.
Organizations must be governed by active boards and have sufficient annual revenue to carry out their programs. Organizations receiving grants will be required to prominently display provided signage recognizing Pirates Charities' support.
Matching grants between $1,000 - $5,000 are available for the renovation of outdoor athletic or recreational fields used primarily by youth, including but not limited to baseball/softball, football, field hockey, lacrosse and soccer fields. Eligible projects will include the upgrading of essential field components, such as new sod, infield, turf, fencing, dugouts/benches and irrigation systems; upgrades to the overall facility to include lights, bleachers, batting cages, scoreboards, concession stands, ADA/accessibility improvements. The purchase of land, parking lots, press boxes, and restrooms are ineligible. Routine maintenance of fields will not qualify.
Organizations may apply for one Fields for Kids grant per year, and each unique field may benefit from one grant per year. Funding requests for projects that have already been completed will not be considered. Projects must be completed within one year from the date of the grant award, and a final report including photos must be completed at that time. Organizations cannot receive a grant in consecutive years. Organizations that have received a grant in the past must have returned a final grant report demonstrating project completion.
