Veteran infielders Ramón Urías and Luis Urías are free agents. So they aren’t sure where they will be playing on Opening Day this year.
But the brothers do know where they will be when the 2026 World Baseball Classic begins in March – playing as teammates on Team Mexico. It was announced Tuesday that Ramón and Luis intend to play for their home country this year.

Team rosters are subject to change based on injuries and availability leading up to the WBC, which is something the Urías brothers know well. They were slated to play for Team Mexico in the 2023 tournament, but Ramón was forced to withdraw due to a last-minute insurance issue.
Luis went on to hit .278 (5-for-18) with one home run in six games for Mexico, which claimed third place, the team’s best finish in WBC history. Randy Arozarena, Jarren Duran and Alejandro Kirk have been confirmed as members of Team Mexico for this year’s tournament.
Ramón, 31, split the 2025 Major League season between the Orioles and Astros. The six-year vet had 11 homers and a .676 OPS in 112 games. Luis, who was born exactly three years after his older brother, had eight homers in 96 games with the A’s last year, his eighth big league season. He finished the year at Triple-A in the Brewers’ system.
Mexico’s first game in the 2026 World Baseball Classic will come against Great Britain on March 6. First pitch from Houston’s Daikin Park is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
