April 26th, 2024

On Thursday, the Pittsburgh Pirates celebrated Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day with their annual “Bring Your Bucco” event, which aims to bring the spirit of baseball to the next generation of fans by providing front office families the opportunity to be an employee for a day.

More than 40 children aged 6-14 years old, whose parents, guardians or relatives work in the front office for the Pittsburgh Pirates, participated in the event, courtesy of the Pirates People & Culture Department.

Participating Buccos shadowed their respective guardians prior to going on an exclusive ballpark tour, led by PNC Park tour guide Matthew Peaslee. While learning about the rich history of Pirates baseball and stadium milestones, little Buccos also got to explore the best ballpark in America.

The day was highlighted by surprise visits from Pirates pitchers and , who welcomed the young fans to PNC Park and signed autographs. Adding to the excitement, the youngsters had a chance to participate in their own press conference, fielding questions like, “What does your parent do to prepare for baseball games?” and “If you could be a Pirates player for a day, who would you be and why?” While some answers revealed humorous guesses about their parents’ roles, the event provided an engaging peek into the behind-the-scenes world of the Pirates' front office operations.

The event culminated with the children receiving a special on-field recognition before heading to the World Series suite to catch the 12:35 p.m. tilt against the Milwaukee Brewers. A spread of ballpark favorites was served and enjoyed, from classic hot dogs to special edition Jell-O and dirt pudding baseball cups.

Designed to engage and connect families to the front office, “Bring Your Bucco to Work Day” is more than just a chance to accompany parents to work -- it is a vibrant immersion into the passion and dedication that fuel Pirates baseball while creating lifelong memories at the ballpark.
