Attended Bishop Kelley High School in Tulsa, OK. As a junior he led BKHS to the Class 5A State Championship. Walton was also a quarterback on the football team and played varsity basketball. His father, Rob, has been the OSU pitching coach for over a decade following a standout career for the Cowboys. After Walton made his MLB debut the first thing he did was call his dad and tell him “we did it”. With SF in 2022, Walton was called upon to pitch, fulfilling a lifelong dream of his father Rob, who was supposed to be called up by Baltimore to make his MLB debut in 1988 but he tore his rotator cuff and never pitched again. Drafted by the Mets in the 36th round of the 2012 draft but chose to attend OK State. Attended OSU and hit .337 with 44 RBI and a .428 OBP as a senior and helped lead the Cowboys to the 2016 College World Series. Became the only OSU player and one of only 10 in conference history to earn All-Big 12 First Team honors three times in a career. Drafted a second time, this time in the 23rd round in 2015 by Milwaukee but he returned to school. Drafted by Seattle in the fifth round of the 2016 draft following his senior season.
