A native of Panama, Amaya is in his 11th year in the Cubs organization after he was signed as a non-drafted free agent on July 17, 2015...Added to the Cubs' 40-man roster Nov. 20, 2019...Entered the 2021 season ranked as the organization's third-best prospect by MLB.com...Was named to the Panama World Baseball Classic Qualifier roster in 2020...The tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic...Ranked as the fourth-best prospect by Baseball America in the Cubs system entering 2020...Was ranked second entering 2019...Was selected to the MLB Futures Game in both 2018 and 2019...Was a Midwest League Mid-Season All-Star in 2018 and a 2019 Rising Star in the Arizona Fall League...His father, Maximiliano, is the mayor of his hometown, La Villa de los Santos, in Panama.

2025

Appeared in 26 games for the Cubs in 2025, hitting .281 (27-for-96) with four home runs, 25 RBI and 13 extra-base hits...Enjoyed a season-high five-game hitting streak from March 18-April 1 to begin the season...His five RBI March 27 at Arizona marked the fourth time since the start of 2020 that a Cubs catcher recorded at least five RBI in a game (also Christian Bethancourt - 8/28/2024, Miguel Amaya - 8/22/2024 and Yan Gomes - 9/30/2023)...On April 12 in Los Angeles, hit his first home run of the season and recorded his second game with at least three RBI (also March 27 at Arizona - five)...On April 14 in San Diego, went 3-for-4 with two doubles, his fifth career game with multiple extra-base hits, his second this season (also March 27 at Arizona)...On May 12 vs. Miami, tallied a season high-tying three hits (done twice - last: April 14 at San Diego) and his third game with two extra-base hits (done three times - last: April 14 at San Diego)...On May 19 in Miami, tied a career high with five RBI (done three times, last: March 27 at Arizona) and hit his fourth home run of the season...Was placed on the 60-day injured list July 31 with a left oblique strain...Was activated from the injured list on Aug. 12, making one appearance on Aug. 13 in Toronto before being placed on the 10-day injured list with a left ankle sprain on Aug. 14.

Miguel made his Major League debut in 2023 and hit .214 (28-for-131) with four doubles, five home runs, 18 RBI and 17 runs scored in 53 games with the Cubs...He amassed 12 walks and 11 hit-by-pitches to contribute to a .329 on-base percentage...In 28 Minor League games between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa, he hit .293 (27-for-92) with 10 doubles, five home runs, 18 RBI, a .431 OBP and a .996 OPS...Made his Major League debut May 4 at Washington, getting the start at catcher after being recalled on May 2 from Double-A Tennessee...The club finished the season 17-17 in games he started behind the plate...Notched his first career RBI in his Major League debut on a sacrifice fly...His first career hit (single) came May 6 against Miami (A.J. Miguel started the 2022 season on the injured list while recovering from Tommy John surgery before being activated by Double-A Tennessee on July 18 ... was on the I.L. from Aug. 21-30 with left third digit dislocation and Sept.12-end of the season with left ankle sprain... In 28 games with Tennessee, he hit .278 (27-for-97) with six doubles, one triple, four homers, 19 RBI, a .379 OBP and a .485 slugging percentage.. Played 12 games with Rookie League Mesa during an injury rehab assignment from July 1-16 ... went 8-for-37 with two home runs, seven walks and a .341 OBP. 

2021

Limited to 23 games with Double-A Tennessee in 2021, as he landed on the seven-day injured list, June 5, with a right forearm strain... Underwent Tommy John surgery at the start of December... Produced a .406 OBP with the Smokies despite a .215 average (17-for-79) ... drew 21 walks in 106 plate appearances.

2020

Miguel spent the season at the Cubs South Bend alternate site.

2019

Played the entire season at Single-A Myrtle Beach as a 20-year-old...batted .235 (80-for-341) with 24 doubles, 11 homers and 57 RBI in 99 games...posted a .351 on-base percentage and a .402 slugging percentage, good for a .753 OPS...Threw out 34.8 percent of runners attempting to steal (46-of-132)...Batted .251 (44-for-175) with a .440 slugging mark after the All-Star Break, compared to a .217 mark (36-for-166) with a .361 slugging mark prior to the All-Star Break. 

2018

Appeared in a career-high 116 games with Single-A South Bend, his first pro campaign with a full season club...batted .256 (106-for-414) with 21 doubles, two triples, 12 homers, 52 RBI and 50 walks...was named a Midwest League mid-season All-Star...Batted .308 (28-for-91) against lefties compared to .241 (78-for-323) against righties...Posted four-straight multi-hit games, July 7-11, going 9-for-17 with two doubles and two home runs. 2017.

2017

In his first season in the United States, he batted .228 (52-for-228) with 14 doubles and three homers in 58 games with Single-A Eugene.

2016

Made his pro debut with the Dominican Summer League Cubs, batting .245 (51-for-208) with 12 doubles, one homer and 22 RBI in 58 contests.
