Thorpe goes two innings with High-A Winston-Salem in second rehab start

It was Minor League injury rehab start No. 2 for Drew Thorpe, the White Sox right-hander who has not pitched in a Major League game since July 31, 2024. Thorpe underwent Tommy John surgery in April 2025 and has dealt with a few setbacks on the comeback trail, including an appendectomy in May.

How did he perform?
Thorpe’s first start came for the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League White Sox last Saturday and featured a 9:59 a.m. MST first pitch. So he was happy to be back to night game action in his second go.

After striking out two during a scoreless first for High-A Winston-Salem, Thorpe allowed three runs in the second. He walked the first two in the frame before Tony Blanco Jr. launched a long home run to left. Thorpe finished with the three runs allowed in those two innings, throwing 21 of his 41 pitches for strikes.

What’s next?
A rehab start schedule has been mapped out for Thorpe, with at least the next couple of outings figuring to come for Winston-Salem. He could target three innings during his next trip to the mound.

What are they saying?
“It’s definitely been a longer process than I expected. But you know, just some of the things are out of my control. Just kind of going day by day and that’s all I can really do. The last month or so has been great, building back up. I feel awesome, touching the mound again, being in a game. Just continue to build from here.” – Thorpe

What else?
Thorpe credited teammates such as Mason Adams and Ky Bush for helping him through the recovery process, with both hurlers having undergone Tommy John around the same time as him. Adams has a 3.56 ERA over 12 Minor League starts and is pitching for Triple-A Charlotte.
