The Red Sox today announced the addition of high school baseball to the April 21 ALS Awareness Game at Fenway Park when Xaverian Brothers High School will take on St. John's Prep prior to Boston College's 7th annual charity game.
Tickets for the single-admission doubleheader, which starts with the 10:30 a.m. high school baseball game followed by the 3 p.m. BC vs. Florida State game, are $10 and on sale now at redsox.com/alsgame. All proceeds from the two games will benefit patients and families living with ALS through the Pete Frates Home Health Initiative - a cause that is close to both high schools and BC.
Pete Frates is a graduate of both St. John's Prep and BC, and has been living with ALS for six years. Longtime teacher and assistant principal of Xaverian Brothers High School, Brother Raymond Hoyt, passed away from the disease in October 2017, only 15 months after his diagnosis.
The ALS doubleheader is part of back-to-back days of charity baseball games at Fenway Park which begin on April 20 at 6 p.m. with the Army vs. Navy baseball game. Proceeds from the game will benefit the Home Base Program, a partnership between Massachusetts General Hospital and the Red Sox Foundation that helps veterans suffering from PTSD and other "invisible wounds of war." Tickets for the general admission game are on sale now at redsox.com/armynavy. All members of the military who attend the game in uniform will be granted free entry.
Since Frates' diagnosis with ALS, the BC Eagles have held an annual ALS Awareness Game at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at Commander Shea Field. This will be the second year the charity game will be held at Fenway Park. Army's April 20 matchup is the first time the Black Knights will host a baseball game at Fenway Park.
