Red Sox announce roster moves

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:

  • Placed third baseman Rafael Devers on the 10-Day Injured list with right hamstring inflammation.
  • Selected outfielder Jaylin Davis to the active Major League roster from Triple-A Worcester.
  • Transferred infielder/outfielder Kiké Hernández to the 60-Day Injured List.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Devers, 25, started last night’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays at third base, going 1-for-3 with a double. The left-handed hitter leads the American League in hits (113) and ranks second in batting average (.324), extra-base hits (52), total bases (210), and runs scored (62). The starting third baseman for the AL in the 2022 All-Star Game also ranks third in the league in slugging percentage (.602), OPS (.981), doubles (29), and FanGraphs WAR (4.6).

Davis, 28, has played in 56 games for Worcester this season, batting .236 (45-for-191) with five home runs and 15 RBI. The right-handed hitter has played in two games for Boston this season, including on May 1 against the Baltimore Orioles where he started in left field and went 2-for-4. Davis has made 34 starts in center field, 11 in left field, and eight in right field for the WooSox this year.

Hernández, 30, was placed on the 10-Day Injured List on June 8 with a right hip flexor strain. The right-handed hitter made one rehab appearance with Worcester on July 8 against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, starting at designated hitter. Hernández has played in 51 games for Boston this season, batting .209 (45-for-215) with 27 runs and 24 RBI while starting each game in center field.
