DENVER -- A day after the Braves-Rockies game started with an evening temperature of 74 degrees, expectations of a major blizzard led to a decision to postpone Wednesday’s game between the teams at Coors Field.
The game was rescheduled for Aug. 26 at 1:10 p.m. MT.
At the time of the announcement, around 9 a.m. MT, skies were gray and the temperature was in the 40s. But the National Weather Service had issued a blizzard warning for noon, so the teams headed off to the next city.
The postponement means right-hander Jeff Hoffman, who was in Denver on Tuesday but was never officially recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque, was never added to Colorado's roster to replace lefty Tyler Anderson, who is on the 10-day injured list with left knee inflammation. Righty Jon Gray is scheduled to pitch Thursday at San Francisco.
The weather postponement means the Rockies finish their first homestand of the season 0-5, which is their worst home start since going 0-6 in 1998. Colorado, which has been to the postseason the last two years and is expected to contend in the National League West, has lost nine of its last 10 games after a 2-0 start, and the Rockies have their second-worst record after 12 games at 3-9. They were 2-10 in 2005.
Tickets from Wednesday’s game are valid for the game on the rescheduled date. Fans who cannot attend may exchange Wednesday’s ticket for any game throughout the remainder of the season, value for value, for the best available seating. Limits may apply. However, any exchanges must be made by first pitch on Aug. 26.
Complimentary tickets have a value of zero dollars and may not be exchanged, and discounted tickets can be exchanged only for the amount paid.
There are no cash refunds. Ticket exchanges are accepted at the Coors Field Ticket Office and all Rockies Dugout Store locations. Secondary market customers looking to exchange tickets must contact the customer service department of the company from which the tickets were bought, and the tickets are not valid for exchange at Rockies Dugout Stores.
On Aug. 26, parking lots will open at 10:30 a.m. Call 303-ROCKIES for information.
