Black 'excited' to join NL staff for '21 ASG

July 7th, 2021

PHOENIX -- Rockies manager Bud Black and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts are offseason neighbors in the San Diego area -- friends all the time, but competitors, nonetheless. But they also know when to pull together, which they will do during the All-Star Game presented by Mastercard at Coors Field next Tuesday.

Roberts, who will manage the National League squad as the skipper of the 2020 World Series champion Dodgers, has invited Black to be a member of his All-Star coaching staff.

“I'm excited. So grateful again to be asked by Dave -- we go way back,” said Black, who had Roberts on his coaching staff when he was manager of the Padres. “We've done this before in 2018. But I'm more excited because it's in Denver, in front of our home fans and in our own ballpark. And Denver's ready to really represent Colorado, the city itself, our fans. It's going to be fun. It's going to be a blast.”

Rockies head athletic trainer Keith Dugger and director of physical performance Gabe Bauer will also be part of the NL staff. Right-hander Germán Márquez is Colorado's lone All-Star representative, while shortstop Trevor Story will take part in Monday's T-Mobile Home Run Derby.
