Knee sprain lands McGee on injured list

April 2nd, 2019

The Rockies have placed left-hander Jake McGee on the 10-day injured list with a left knee sprain and recalled right-hander Carlos Estevez from Triple-A Albuquerque, the club announced Tuesday.

McGee exited Monday’s 7-1 loss to the Rays in the eighth inning with two outs. After striking out Willy Adames looking, McGee grabbed his left knee, prompting a visit to the mound by the team’s trainer, manager Bud Black and pitching coach Steve Foster.

McGee appeared in two of the Rockies' first five games, throwing 2 1/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts and no walks. The 32-year-old southpaw is looking to bounce back after recording a 6.49 ERA over 51 1/3 innings last season.

Estevez, 26, has posted a 5.36 ERA in 98 appearances for Colorado over the past two years.
