DENVER -- The Rockies honored several branches of the military on Memorial Day during pregame ceremonies at Coors Field on Monday.
The Rockies recognized the newest of the U.S. Navy's Nuclear Submarine, the USS Colorado. This is the fourth ship named after the 38th state in the Union with the most recently named ship being a 1923 Battleship that served during World War II.
The USS Colorado is in the final stages of construction in Groton, Conn., and is expected to be christened this fall with an expected life of 30 years. Four crew members from the ship also visited from the East Coast.

The Mile High Honor Guard, which is stationed in Buckley Air Force Base just east of Denver, presented the colors before the game. The national anthem was performed by members of the 460th Space Wing and the 8th Space Warning Squadron.
The pregame flyover was done by the Navy EA-18G Growler Training Squadron, Electronic Attack Squadron One Twenty Nine out of Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Wash. Commanding Officer Trevor B. Estes and six of his lieutenants were honored in the middle of the eighth inning.
"God Bless America" was sung by Senior Airman Benjamin Sampson during the seventh-inning stretch. Also during that break, locally assigned Navy sailors from NIOC Colorado helped unfurl an American flag in the Rockpile, located in the upper center-field bleachers.
