Rox announce Coors Field reopening plans

February 26th, 2021

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Rockies announced Friday that they have been approved by the state of Colorado to host up to 12,500 fans at Coors Field -- 25 percent capacity -- starting with the April 1 regular-season opener against the defending World Series champion Dodgers.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment approved the Rockies' request, after the club implemented "all required CDPHE, CDC and MLB policies and guidelines" for health and safety, according to a club press release.

The Rockies and the CDPHE will continue assessments in hopes of "safely adding to the capacity number in the near future," the release said.

Last season, after a lengthy delay because of COVID-19 concerns, MLB instituted a regionalized 60-game regular-season schedule for all teams but without fans.

As the Cactus League season opens on Sunday, with the Rockies meeting the D-backs at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick (a facility the two teams share), crowds of roughly 2,200 (17 percent capacity) are being allowed.
