Rox add prospect Toglia to pool; Collins out

July 27th, 2020

The Rockies have added first baseman Michael Toglia, their first-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft and their No. 3 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, and a list of their top prospects to their 2020 player pool.

The additions bring the Rockies’ player pool to 56 players. Teams can have a total of up to 60 players on their Major League active roster and 10-day injured list and their satellite camp, which counts the three players on the road as a taxi squad. The prospects being added will join the satellite camp, which for the Rockies is taking place in Denver at Coors Field, Metropolitan State University of Denver and the Pepsi Center (for clubhouse/dressing area purposes).

Toglia is joined by Ryan Vilade (No. 4 Rockies), a third baseman and outfielder who participated in his first Major League Spring Training this year; third baseman Aaron Schunk (No. 6), a second-round pick last year; Colton Welker (No. 7), a third baseman who has been in Major League camp the last two years; Karl Kauffmann (No. 13), a right-handed pitcher drafted 77th overall in 2019; Helcris Olivarez (No. 17), a left-handed pitcher signed in 2016 out of the Dominican Republic; and catcher Willie MacIver, a ninth-round pick in 2018.

The club earlier announced that right-handed starting pitcher Wes Parsons, who made 32 combined relief appearances with the Braves and Rockies last season, and right-handed reliever Tommy Doyle, the No. 19 prospect, will be part of the satellite group.

Additionally, Rockies veteran non-roster left-handed relief pitcher Tim Collins has withdrawn from the satellite camp. Collins, 30, who is 12-17 with a 3.60 ERA in 275 Major League games with the Royals, Nationals and Cubs, was not placed on the 30-man roster out of Summer Camp.
