Colorado Rockies acquire right-hander pitcher Cal Quantrill via trade with Cleveland

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have acquired right-handed pitcher Cal Quantrill via trade with the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for Minor League catcher Kody Huff.

Quantrill, 28, went 4-7 with a 5.24 ERA (99.2 IP, 58 ER) over 19 starts with the Guardians in 2023 … in 90 games (57 starts) from 2020-22, went 25-8 with a 3.08 ERA (368.0 IP, 126 ER) … over five Major League seasons with San Diego (2019-20) and Cleveland (2020-23), has gone 35-23 with a 3.83 ERA (570.2 IP, 243 ER) over 132 games (94 starts) … the Port Hope, Ontario, Canada native was originally drafted in the 26th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the New York Yankees but did not sign … was then drafted in the first round (eighth overall) in 2016 out of Stanford University by the San Diego Padres … is the son of 14-year Major League veteran Paul Quantrill.

Huff, 22, has slashed .254./352/.364 with five home runs and 41 RBI in 95 games over his two professional seasons in the Rockies organization.

To make room for Quantrill on Colorado’s 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Tommy Doyle has been designated for assignment.

The Rockies have a full 40-man roster.
