Colorado Rockies announce coaching staff changes

Darryl Scott replaces Darren Holmes as the club’s bullpen coach

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have named Darryl Scott as the bullpen coach, replacing Darren Holmes. Additionally, the Rockies announcedthat Steve Merriman has been named one of the club’s Minor League pitching coordinators, Scott’s previous position.

Scott, 51, has been a coach or coordinator in the Rockies organization since 2009, including each of the last three seasons as one of the club’s pitching coordinators. Prior to moving into the coordinator position, Scott served as the pitching coach for four different Rockies affiliations across eight seasons, most recently as the pitching coach for Triple-A Albuquerque from 2015-16. Scott transitioned to coaching after an 11-year playing career that included two stints with Triple-A Colorado Springs in 1995 and 2000. He was originally signed by the California Angels in 1990 as an undrafted free agent and made his Major League debut on May 31, 1993 with the Angels.

Merriman was the pitching coach with Double-A Hartford in 2019, which was a return to the Rockies after a stint as an associate scout from 2002-04. He previously spent the 2018 season as the assistant pitching coordinator in the Chicago Cubs organization and also served as a pitching coach in the Kansas City Royals organization from 2012-14. Merriman has also worked as a pitching coach for the University of Michigan (2012), as an area scout for the MLB Scouting Bureau (2009-11) and as a coach with the New York Mets (2004-06) and the Arizona Diamondbacks (2007-09).
