Danny Montgomery, Vice President and Assistant General Manager of Scouting

Danny Montgomery, an original hire and member of the Rockies organization since November 1991, embarks on his second season as vice president and assistant general manager of scouting. He was originally promoted to the role on Oct. 2, 2021.

Prior to his promotion, Montgomery spent the previous seven seasons (2015-21) as a special assistant to the general manager, working closely with previous GM Jeff Bridich and current GM and former Vice President of Scouting Bill Schmidt on the annual First-Year Player Draft. He also previously served as the assistant director of scouting (2005-14), national crosschecker (2002-04), East Coast crosschecker (2000-02) and West Coast crosschecker (1998-99) after beginning his Rockies career as an area scout in the Carolinas.

In 2018, Montgomery joined the Board of Directors for the Professional Baseball Scouts Foundation, was elected to the Scouts Hall of Fame and was also voted the 2018 East Coast Scout of the Year by Major League Baseball. He was also honored with the Herb Hippauf Scouting Award in 2001, presented annually to the individual that exemplifies loyalty, dedication, honesty and a commitment to doing what is in the best interest of the Colorado Rockies.

Montgomery was drafted as a shortstop by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1986, and played in the Minor Leagues until a knee injury curtailed his career. He retired as a player in 1989 and immediately became a coach with the Rookie Level Dodgers affiliate in Kissimmee, Fla. Following that season, he became an area scout with the Dodgers until he joined the Rockiesā€™ front office.

Montgomery attended the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, where he played shortstop and studied psychology. He is a graduate of T.C. Roberson High School in Asheville, N.C., where he starred in baseball and basketball.
