Christian Scott has given the Mets’ rotation a boost with both Clay Holmes and Kodai Senga on the injured list, but now Scott will join them on the shelf due to a right hip impingement. The Mets placed the right-hander on the 15-day injured list on Monday, which is also his 27th birthday.
MLB Network insider Jon Heyman reported that Scott's injury "not believed [to be] serious."
Scott's IL placement, which is retroactive to Friday, was part of a larger set of roster moves the Mets made on Monday: Right-handers Tobias Myers, who will start the Mets' series opener in Cincinnati, and Jonathan Pintaro were recalled from Triple-A Syracuse; reliever Daniel Duarte was optioned to Triple-A; infielder Zack Short was claimed off waivers from the Tigers; and Jorge Polanco was transferred to the 60-day injured list.
Scott made his MLB debut in 2024, but he underwent surgery to repair a torn UCL in his right elbow that September and missed all of ’25.
Scott walked five batters over 1 1/3 innings of work in his first start back on April 23, but he has posted a 2.97 ERA with 46 strikeouts and 14 walks in 39 1/3 innings spanning his past eight starts. The Mets have gone 6-2 in those eight games.
It remains to be seen how the Mets will fill Scott's rotation spot. The club's starting staff currently includes Freddy Peralta, Nolan McLean and Sean Manaea, who made his first start of the season on June 13 after previously pitching as a bulk reliever.
Jonah Tong pitched in a bulk role in three games for the Mets earlier this season, but he has struggled over two starts for Triple-A Syracuse since he was sent back to the Minors on June 3. Tong allowed four runs over five innings in his latest start for Syracuse on Sunday and owns a 6.13 ERA in Triple-A this year. Senga pitched well in a rehab start for Double-A Binghamton on Thursday, but he's not expected to be an option until later this month.
Polanco has already spent over 60 days on the IL, so the move to the 60-day IL will not affect his timeline to return from left Achilles bursitis.
