KANSAS CITY -- For the second time in the past week, the Royals have had their game washed out by rain. Sunday’s series finale against the Tigers at Kauffman Stadium was postponed and is scheduled to be made up as part of a split doubleheader on Monday, July 11 in Kansas City.

Game 1 of the doubleheader will start at 1:10 p.m. CT, and Game 2 -- the originally scheduled game -- will follow at 7:10 p.m. CT. Both games will be regulation nine-inning contests.

Tickets for Sunday’s postponed game will be honored for the rescheduled game. Fans do not have to exchange their original tickets if they elect to attend Game 1, but if they are not able to attend, tickets must be exchanged by first pitch on July 11. More information can be found here.

With a scheduled off-day Monday, the Royals again pushed their starters back; instead of starting Sunday’s game, right-hander Carlos Hernández will start Tuesday’s series opener against the Twins at Kauffman Stadium.

He’ll be followed by lefty Daniel Lynch and right-hander Zack Greinke to finish out the homestand.

The Royals snapped their five-game losing streak Saturday night on the back of Hunter Dozier, who hit the game-winning, two-run home run in the sixth inning. They’ll try to hold onto that momentum with two days away from the ballpark -- although, after the shortened Spring Training, Kansas City will take advantage of any days off it can get, coming back Tuesday with fresh and rested players.

Pitchers were still able to play catch on the field Sunday before the rain started, and a few threw bullpen sessions, including Lynch, Brady Singer and Dylan Coleman.

Both rainouts in the past week have cost some Royals players time on the field early in the season. Outfielder Kyle Isbel was likely going to start last Wednesday in St. Louis. And Edward Olivares was in the starting lineup Sunday, hitting seventh and playing left field, for his first start of the season and first consistent string of at-bats since hitting his way to an Opening Day roster spot during the spring.

Manager Mike Matheny had also shuffled the lineup around Sunday to give Andrew Benintendi and Carlos Santana a day off, moving Dozier up to the fourth spot and Michael A. Taylor up to the fifth spot, as well as slotting Salvador Perez in as the designated hitter.

Now, the Royals will prep for another American League Central opponent in the Twins. As the offense looks to turn their slow start around, they’ll face Minnesota starters Chris Archer, Chris Paddack and Joe Ryan.
