Assistant Athletic Trainer
Chris DeLucia is in his 18th season with the Royals and third as the Assistant Major League Athletic Trainer, after spending the previous three seasons on the Royals staff as the Tissue Therapist/Assistant Athletic Trainer. He previously served the Royals as the Minor League Medical Coordinator from 2010-18. He began with the Royals organization as the Athletic Trainer for the Double-A affiliate (Wichita and Northwest Arkansas) from 2007-09.
DeLucia is in his 32nd season overall in Major League Baseball, including spending time in the Texas Rangers (2001-06) and New York Yankees (1992-98) organizations. He was named the South Atlantic League Athletic Trainer of the Year in 1998, while working at Class-A Greensboro. He also spent two winters as the Athletic Trainer for Yankees players participating in the Australian Winter Baseball League.
He is a graduate of St. Leo University (Fla.), where he received a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. DeLucia, who obtained certification with the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Corrective Exercise and Performance Exercise Specialist, played soccer at St. Leo and worked in the athletic training room. He resides in Goodyear, Ariz., during the offseason. When not working, Chris enjoys mountain biking, hiking, cooking, traveling and spending time with his family.
