Vice President of Community Impact
Luis Maes joined the Royals in October 2022 as the Vice President of Community Impact after serving as the Head of Global Social Impact at Electronic Arts (EA). Prior to EA, Luis created and led a first-of-its-kind team at Nike that leveraged $3 billion of corporate assets to bring community impact; diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI); and environmental sustainability to life in the communities where Nike employees and athletes live, work and play. He also led strategic planning for Nike’s global social impact strategy—which has been recognized as an industry-leading approach and resulted in game-changing impact for communities all over the world. Before joining Nike, Luis led social and community impact efforts at Walmart and in the government and nonprofit sectors.
With the Royals, Luis leads the Community Impact Department—including the Kansas City Royals Foundation, the Kansas City Urban Youth Academy, and Royals Hall of Fame & Ballpark Experiences—that is using the power of sport & baseball to unleash human potential and move our community forward.
Luis holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and master’s degrees from Harvard University and Duke University. Luis and his wife, Margaret, live in Overland Park, Kan. with their three children, Santiago, Camila and Lucho.
